The former "imperial post office" is located in the centre of St. Michaelisdonn.
In 1873, the Prussian administration set up a postal agency in St. Michaelisdonn. The publican of a pub in Westerstraße took care of business in a "post room". Due to the sharp increase in mail traffic, the "imperial post office", run by a postmaster, was established in 1906 and moved into this building, which was built around 1880, in the same year.
After a new post office was built in 1965, the "Alte Post" went into private use. In 1989, the municipality of St. Michaelisdonn bought the building and renovated it, restoring its original appearance.
