Dithmarschen: something for everyone
Surfers and nature lovers alike love the area of Speicherkoog around the town of Meldorf. The idyllic Eider, Schleswig-Holstein’s longest river, is, on the other hand, a paradise for nature lovers, anglers, canoeists and waterborne enthusiasts, while the Kiel Canal offers large liners within reach and popular bicycle trails. The town of Heide, with the largest market square in Germany and numerous shopping facilities, is the hub of the region. Art and culture aficionados too are in for a treat, for instance in “Hebbeltown” Wesselburen, birthplace of the famous German poet and dramatist Friedrich Hebbel.
